BLOG OF TRUTH
I guess the question could be: "At what point is something so late that it becomes early?" This blog post for instance, in comparison to the previous post it would seem super late, though when one considers what we've got in the works it might be a tad bit preemptive, but more on that in a moment.
I've always entertained an idea that might be odd considering the career I chose (music - in case reading a blog on a band website didn't make that obvious), but just like being the first band you can text, I think our industry is due for a paradigm shift, a changing of the guard if you will.
Modern music is such a different beast than it was twenty or so years ago. More and more acts are resorting to shock value and generic flavour of the week records in an attempt to gain a short lived payday that they're forgetting the label they attached to themselves (artists) almost no longer applies to their work. Similar to the title above, at what point is something no longer considered art?
This odd idea I alluded to before was the concept that as an artist you're given the opportunity to create art within everything you do (be it composition, visual art, or the written word) and limiting yourself to just a single outlet seems silly when almost everything you conceive can be used as a medium to tell your story. So as a "musician" it may appear odd not to focus solely on music, but when you consider the limitless possibilities that exist as an "artist" it seems quite the other way around. So late or early? I suppose it's just a matter of perspective.
